Steelers Draft Picks

Round 1, Pick 22 (22)

Bud Dupree OLB 6’4″ 269 Kentucky 6.1

Mike Mayock:”Dupree is a big, strong, fast, freakish athlete. He’s a height-weight-speed guy. The one thing I don’t like is a lack of consistency. He’s explosive, big, strong and fits what Pittsburgh does defensively.”

 Round 2, Pick 24 (56)

Senquez Golson CB 5’9″ 176 Mississippi 5.6

Mike Mayock:  “Golson is a corner who is only 5-foot-8 and 176 pounds, but what separates him is his ball skills. He played minor league baseball. The question is, how much does size matter? Golson is one of the best pure zone corners I’ve seen.”

Round 3, Pick 23 (87)

Sammie Coates WR 6’1″ 212 Auburn 5.6

Mike Mayock: “This guy is pure speed. He’s big bodied and takes the top off of zones. He is a height-weight-speed specimen. The only question is how natural are his hands.”

Round 4, Pick 22 (121)

Doran Grant CB 5’10” 200 Ohio St. 5.4

Mark Dulgerian: “The Steelers’ defensive backfield has some gaping holes in it and they continue to address it in the draft with this selection. Like Senquez Golson, Grant is a cerebral player who reads and reacts quickly in coverage.”

Round 5, Pick 24 (160)

Jesse James TE 6’7″ 261 Penn St. 5.1

Mark Dulgerian: “Staying local with this pick, the Steelers find a large tight end with a similar body type and skill set as Matt Spaeth, their aging number two tight end. They likely see him as a developmental subpackage weapon for their 12 personnel (2 tight ends) sets.”

Round 6, Pick 23 (199)

Leterrius Walton DT 6’5″ 319 Central Michigan 5.3

Mark Dulgerian: “Walton has the traits to develop into a contributor as a 5 technique in Pittsburgh’s odd front. He’s a project, but another step in the right direction to get younger on defense.”

Round 6, Pick 36 (212) (compensatory selection)

Anthony Chickillo DE 6’3″ 267 Miami 5.4

Mark Dulgerian: “A player who has 5-technique written all over him, Chickillo is an excellent fit for the Steelers’ 3-4 defense. He is athletic enough to stand up off the edge as well. His versatility will be an asset to a rebuilding defense. This is a great value pick and scheme fit.”

Round 7, Pick 22 (239)

Gerod Holliman FS 6’0″ 218 Louisville 5.3

Mark Dulgerian: “The theme with the Steelers’ defensive back picks in this draft is instincts and ball skills. Holliman has plenty of both. Those are likely the two main reasons Pittsburgh took a chance on him late as he has considerable work to do as a tackler.”
